Durrrr and Ziigmund Play $3,000-$9,000 PLO

Last week, Tom "Durrrr" Dwan and Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies were playing deep-stacked heads-up $500/1,000 PLO when Ziigmund proposed $3,000/9,000 "blinds" to Dwan. Dwan accepted to play for 10 hands but they played much longer.

Here is the conversation they had:

Ziigmund: lets make deal
Ziigmund: always have to raise and reraise
durrrr: what type?
durrrr: lol
Ziigmund: ok?
durrrr: ill do for 10hands ok?
Ziigmund: before flop
durrrr: next 10hands
Ziigmund: ok next 10 hands
durrrr: god
durrrr: lol
durrrr: so sick
Ziigmund: then u can do what u want
Ziigmund: rereraise
durrrr: ya obv
Ziigmund: or whatever
durrrr: ya
durrrr: 10 hands
Ziigmund: but raise and reraise before flop
durrrr: ya

They played some huge pots, 3 pots over $400k including one for over $577k! In the $577k pot, Durrrr flopped the nut straight where Ziigmund flopped the nut flush draw. Ziigmund hit his flush on the turn and collected the massive pot!

Another big pot was a $433k pots won by Durrrr. He flopped top set of queens against Ziigmund's massive straight draws. Ziigmund doesn't hit and Durrrr drags the pot. Here's a picture of the hand, Ziigmund isn't that far behind with his open ended plus double gut shot straight draws.

Durrrr flopped top set of queens against Ziigmund's massive straight draws
At the end of the session, Durrrr finished ahead of Ziigmund by only $160k. 2 days later, Sahamies wanted to play some more $3,000-$9,000 PLO! Dwan said it was too much at the moment but later accepted after winner a big pot.

The biggest hand they played was a $477,912 pot that Ziigmund won. Durrrr flopped a set but Ziigmund turned a straight. Durrrr did not hit his full house and Ziigmund collects the pot.

After the second session, Ziigmund won back his 160k from the first session and now they are tied for the $3,000-$9,000 stakes.

Session 3 coming up?

Gus Hansen Loses over $1.2 Million In Just One Day

Last Friday, Gus Hansen battled it out with Di “Urindanger” Dang and David “MR B 2 U SON” Benyamine on Full Tilt Poker for one his biggest loses of his career. Gus Hansen posted over $1.2 million in losses, losing most of it playing heads-up pot-limit Omaha against Urindanger and Benyamine.

Gus Hansen Loses over $1.2 Million In Just One Day

The three of them played a lot pots, many over $200k. But in the end, Dang took +$740,000 off Hansen and Benyamine finished +$645,000.

Here are some big hands:

The biggest hand Gus actually won. Gus flopped a straight flush 8-Q of clubs, and Benyamine flopped an ace high club flush. All the money went in on the flop and Gus took down the 242k pot.

Gus then loses a $236k pot to Benyamine when they both flopped a set! Gus flopped a set of deuces while Benyamine flopped a set of queens on a Q,10,2 board. Gus Hansen, out of position, check called on the flop and check raised on the turn. Benyamine raises all in and his hand holds up.

Another big hand: Urindanger and Gus play a $238k pot. Urindanger makes a big bluff on the turn with a flush draw and gut shot straight draw. Gus makes the call because he turned a set of jacks. Unfortunately for Gus, Urindanger hits a flush on the river and collects the $238k pot.

Doyle Brunson Challenge

Doyle Brunson has issued a mixed game challenge to anyone willing to accept his terms.

On his blog Brunson says:

I’m getting old, there is nothing I can do about that, but I’m still willing to play anybody “Doyle Sez”, where I can name the game and change to another game when I want to. If any of the internet stars, that don’t play live, want to play, I’ll give them half their money back if they lose if they play 8 hours a day for a week.

The only problem with Doyle's challenge is that he has not listed the type of the games he can choose from. Doyle has mentioned that Patrik Antonius is interested and Patrik would like to know the list of games. Doyle says he will provide a list but he has not updated his blog yet.

Part of the reason Doyle issued this challenge is because a lot of people are saying the new generation of poker players are better and more experienced than the old generation. For example, Tom 'Durrrr' Dwan is only 22 years old (playing for 5 years) and has already played more hands than Doyle Brunson, age 75 and over 50 years experienced. Doyle has a hard time to believe this but Doyle can only play about 30 hands live per hour whereas Dwan can play 500+ hands per hour multitabling. Another reason is because poker articles and videos are are so easily available and nearly every top pro has his/her own instructional site.

These young kids have taken it to a new level... Nowdays, you have to pick your spots to bluff and you try to trap the over aggressive players... If you watch these games closely, you’ll see a lot of the guys, kids mostly, making plays strictly because they are on TV. Any professional poker player would certainly be wrong to shoot it out with the maniac players...The old time poker pro's could make minced meat of today's kids.

His particular gripe seems to be with anyone disrespecting the old time players, an issue that first arose when Layne Flack questioned Doyle's tournament accomplishments.

I just feel I can find a game against anyone that I can beat them at. I know this means I’ll have to play heads up, which I hate, but I can’t back down now. :)

Phil Ivey Wins $1.1 Million In One Day, $900k From Durrrr

On Tuesday evening, Phil Ivey battled it out with some of the top pros on Full Tilt and won huge pots from Ziigmund, LarsLuzak and most notably, Durrrr.

At the end of the day, Phil was up $1.1 Million and had $1 Million at the table against Durrrr whom he won $900k from in the "Ivey Thunderdome" (Phil Ivey's Headsup Pot Limit Holdem $500/$1000 Room). Only 3 other players have ever reached $1 Million at the table; Phil "OMGClayAiken" Galfond, Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies and Tom "durrrr" Dwan.

The largest pot of the day was a $336,590 pot Ivey won against Durrrr in PLO. On the flop, Ivey had Aces, Durrrr had bottom 2 pair(10s and 8s) and open ended straight draw. On the turn, the board paired, giving Ivey a better 2 pair, a river was a blank and Ivey takes down the pot.

The Second Biggest Pot was a $328,790 between Ivey and Durrr; Ivey winning it. Ivey had a open ended straight draw on flop against Durrrr's pocket 10s. Ivey hits his straight on the turn and wins the pot.

In the last headsup hand between Ivey and Durrrr they played a $173,419 pot. They both went all in preflop, Ivey showing Aces with spades, Durrrr being double suited. Ivy hits a flush on the flop and Durrr is drawing dead. You can see a screenshot of the hand below.

A match between Ivey and Dwan for the Durrrr Challenge should be an entertaining one. Hopefully, Dwan doesn't lose too much money before playing with Ivey. Dwan has mentioned if he loses big twice in the first two Durrrr Challenges then he'll decline action from further opponents.

Dwan and Antonius were talking on Full Tilt yesterday and they decided to start Dwan's Million Dollar Challenge on Monday (Today). They have decided on 4 tables headsup of $200/$400 Pot Limit Omaha.

A lot of people thought the challenge may not happen after Dwan's downswing of $3.25 million dollar in January.

durrrr: hey, when r we starting?
durrrr: u on good intnet yet?
Patrik Antonius: my connection is good now
durrrr: o nice
durrrr: k i’ll call ya tomorrow @ some pt
durrrr: o didnt see big hand other tbl sry

2) can change tables anytime if stacks are >250bb
3) have to reload when stacks are <75bb
4) Money won in the challenge is kept obviously + extra money (if Dwan wins $750k in poker, he gets that PLUS opponents $500k- if Dwan loses $750k in poker, oppnent gets that plus his $1.5M, so $2.25M total).
5) same stakes the whole time
