PokerStars ‘Guinness World Record Attempt’

Find The Poker Star In YouLeading online poker site PokerStars continues preparations for its December 28th attempt to rewrite the entry in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest-ever online poker tournament. With a target of 35,000 players, the event should outdraw by 50% some of the largest online tourneys recorded to date – including a Sunday "Hundred Grand" tourney at Stars in July of 2007 that was capped at 20,000 players, thereby setting the published record. With advance registrations proceeding at a fast clip, the special tourney is also likely to be capped well in advance of its start. Even if this tournament should fill up there will be a $150 000 overlay in the prize pool.

If you haven't signed up for Pokerstars, there are 5 $500 freerolls everyday until Dec.27th. To enter, click here and make your first real-money deposit, using any of our convenient payment methods, and enter the code “FDF1” into the bonus code field at the cashier. You'll then be able to play in as many of the daily freerolls as you wish. In addition, you'll also get our 100% First Deposit Bonus of up to $50.

The Dec. 28th event, scheduled for 3:30 pm ET, carries a modest $10+1 entry. The usual buy-in for Pokerstar's $500k is $500+30. The huge number of entrants planned for makes it necessary to be run as a "turbo" event, with ten-minute levels and ten players per table. Over 5,200 players have registered at the time of writing so if you want to make sure you get a spot in this tourney you will probably need to register before the 28th of December because chances are that it will fill up before that.

PokerStars is enriching the prize pool as well, guaranteeing $500,000 for the event, despite its being capped at 35,000 players, who will start with 3,000 chips each. PayNoRake the only site solely dedicated to rakeback

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Shaun O'Neill, the Director of Affiliate Marketing for www.paynorake.com, stated "We are looking forward to the industry's reaction. We know that players and affiliates will be happy as no other poker site in the industry is offering the rakeback levels and the earning potential that PayNoRake is offering. Since so many poker operators in the industry have mixed feelings about rakeback, we expect our competitors to be upset. Our objective is to change the game in a manner that the PokerStars and the Full Tilts of the world won't match and reward our players for playing at PayNoRake. We expect it will be months before any of our competitors even consider matching what we are offering players and affiliates.

"Not many sites are equipped to give up to 100% rakeback to players and pay it daily. This can save an average player $400 to $500 per month and a high-roller could easily pocket $30,000 to $40,000 in a year - on top of any winnings.

"Rakeback is an incredibly fast-growing part of the market that appeals to the most ardent players. Serious players have done the math and recognize the value. These are the players that are regularly on blogs and affiliate sites looking for the best deals in the poker industry. The major affiliates understand the potential for their players and their business, and see it as a win-win situation. We offer the highest possible commission and we give players an enormous incentive to switch and to play very regularly. By offering the highest rakeback in the industry, we will beat the industry-average player retention.

"No wonder the competition is getting so upset; we're changing the rules of the game." For more information on Pay No Rake, contact Shaun@PayNoRake.com

How Online Gamblers Unmasked Cheaters - 60 Minutes/Washington Post Joint Investigation Questions Honesty, Security Of Gambling Sites

CBS news program 60 minutes will air the 30th of November about the cheating that has been going on at Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker...

The first story is about a player called Graycat that was killing the game for months even though his play was terrible and he won with 15 standard deviations above the mean, which was approximately equivalent to winning a one in a million jackpot six consecutive times.

The other story is about the player Potripper who made the 10-high call against Marco "CrazyMarco" Johnson in a $1,000 buy-in tournament in September of 2007. The Potripper was later traced to the headquarters of Absolute Poker in Costa Rica after a player requested his hand history and instead received more information than he should have, including other players cards and ip addresses.

The Washington Post's Steve Kroft and the team behind 60 minutes have been investigating these matters for over 4 months and will now send a program about it on Sunday the 30th at 7:00pm ET on CBS.

A collaboration by two of the world's most respected news organizations reveals how online poker players suspecting cheating were forced to successfully ferret out the cheaters themselves. That's because managers of the mostly-unregulated $18 billion Internet gambling industry failed to respond to their complaints.

The results of the four-month investigation by 60 Minutes correspondent Steve Kroft, producer Ira Rosen and The Washington Post’s two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Gilbert Gaul will appear this Sunday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. ET/PT on 60 Minutes.

"He was raising, just really, really bad hands against very good hands. He seemed to play crazy," says Todd Witteles, a computer scientist turned poker player who believed he was losing too much to the same person. "It seemed like he was giving his money away. Except the only thing was, he wasn't losing. He was playing in a style that was sure to lose, but he was killing the game day after day," Witteles, who played a key detective role, remembers.

Michael Josem, a player and a computer security expert, plotted the odds of such consistent success. "We did the mathematical analysis to find that they were winning at about 15 standard deviations above the mean…approximately equivalent to winning a one-in-a-million jackpot six consecutive times."

The cheating, which netted the cheaters more than $20 million, occurred on two of the Internet's most popular sites, Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet. The two sites operate out of a shopping mall in Costa Rica and run their games on computer servers housed on an Indian reservation outside of Montreal. They are licensed by a Mohawk tribe that has no background in casino gambling, a tribe that previously made the majority of its money selling tax-free tobacco. Though such gambling is illegal in both Canada and the U.S., the betting laws in those countries have no jurisdiction on the sovereign reservation.

Clonie Gowen Files Lawsuit Against Full Tilt Poker November 15, 2008

According to Nevada court records, Cycalona 'Clonie' Gowen has filed a lawsuit against Tiltware, LLC. Full Tilt Poker, and many of the famous faces you see on Full Tilt advertisements. Named in the suit personally are 'Team Full Tilt' members Howard Lederer, Andy Bloch, Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson, John Juanda, Phil Gordon, Erick Lindgren, Erik Seidel, Jennifer Harman-Traniello, Mike Matusow, Allen Cunningham, Gus Hansen and Patrik Antonius.

PokerNews has obtained a copy of the claim, and can verify the following:

The twenty-page filing asserts Breach of Contract, Breach of Fiduciary Duty, Breach of the Covenant of Good Faith and Fair Dealing, Unjust Enrichment, and
Fraud. Gowen is seeking $40,000,000 in damages.

The filing details alleged meetings between Gowen and Tiltware executives where the deal for Gowen to endorse the website was struck. In the claim, Gowen alleges an oral contract existed while admitting no written contract had ever been signed, and that most of the alleged promises took place over the telephone or in meetings with Tiltware executives in Las Vegas in 2004.

The impetus for the lawsuit appears to be that earlier this week, per her claim, Gowen was told she would no longer be working with the website, and her name and image would be removed from the promotional materials.

PokerNews has reached representatives of Tiltware, LLC, who offered the following statement to PokerNews.com:

Tiltware LLC Comment re Clonie Gowen lawsuit.

"Tiltware, LLC, has been made aware of the recent filing of a meritless lawsuit by a former Full Tilt Poker endorser -- Ms. Cycalona Gowen. All claims have no merit and there are many inaccuracies improperly and unlawfully asserted by Ms. Gowen within her frivolous complaint. Tiltware LLC expects that this lawsuit will be dealt with accordingly by a competent court in due course."

Gowen has appeared in promotional materials for Full Tilt, dating back to the website's launch in May of 2004. Gowen rose to prominence by winning a World Poker Tour 'specialty' event, the "WPT Ladies Night" in Season One of the popular poker television show. She was raised in Oklahoma, and won a teen beauty contest in her tiny hometown of McAlester (population 18,000) at the age of 15.

The lawsuit was filed yesterday, November 14th, in Nevada District Court, in the court of Judge Robert C. Jones. PokerNews will have more on this story as it develops.

Coaching Video from Poker Pro Andrew 'Foucault' Brokos 6MAX

This week's free clip: Andrew "Foucault" Brokos plays 2 tables of $3/6 6MAX NL and discusses continuation betting in a variety of spots.

Andrew "Foucault" Brokos is well known for his knowledge of the game. Andrew's experiences in the $5-$10 to $25-$50 no-limit hold'em cash games provide plenty of fodder for his highly regarded poker writing and coaching. His innovative teaching style, informed by his work in urban public education, blends big picture strategy with detailed hand analysis and color commentary. Andrew has also cashed in the last three WSOP main events, including a 35th-place finish in 2008, earning him $193,000.

Andrew 'Foucault' Brokos - "I like that we are moving past the model of "watch me while I play poker and talk about whatever happens" and focusing on the targeted development of specific skills. Don't get me wrong, I've learned a lot from the traditional "sweat" video, and now that I'll be producing videos more regularly, you'll see some of those from me as well. But I also have a background in teaching and working with teachers, and I know that there are much more effective ways of helping people learn. I'm committed to pushing the envelope when it comes to techniques and methods for teaching poker"

Still Playing at Action Poker - Good Session (even though my big hands got beat by bigger hands)

Action Poker - Free $140

Ya, so I played 1.5 hours of Action Poker 10c-25c, 3 tables. I was playing a lot of hands but everyone else let me because they were playing very passive. I couldn't believe how many times I got kings and Aces tonight and it was nice to win with them:) So I'm up $41 plus I unlocked $25 bonus so up $66 today and at $263 right now.

Anyway, here are some hands

Daniel Negreanu "You win some, you lose some" lol:)

I just won the last 4 hands. Nice to win #5:)

This one made me laugh. He hit 3 outer on turn, than I hit my 2 outer on the river:) And he played the hand bad on every street. He put money in there everytime he was behind and the one time he is ahead he checks.

Now, here are 3 hands I got. 2 pair, a set and a flush and I lost them all:( Two of them I think I lost the minimum. Other one, I was getting 2.5-1 on a call on the river.

Ya, so here is a flush I hit. It is a little funny how it played out. I think because it was 3-way pot I choose to play conservative since there was a possibility for higher flush or full house. Man, I thought I won this hand for sure. I think the other guy with ace high flush should have raised on the river for value.

3 outer:( I felt so much strength from him when he check raised on the river. My instincts told me I'm beat but $10 in the pot, $4 to call so had to call.

This hand is pretty sick and I think I got away pretty cheap. His call on the turn is bad, he should definitely have raised it since we're deep stacked(like $30 each) and there's lots of draws that I would pay to see.

Cashout Restriction and RakeBack Percent

Cashout Restriction and RakeBack Percent are two very important things you should look at before you take on a bonus.

Cashout Restriction - This is what you must do before you can cashout. Often it's get 1000 points or play 2500 hands before cashing out. Some deals have little or no cashout restriction such as $10 Free at SunPoker(no cashout restriction) and $35 Free at VC Poker(1 raked hand cashout restriction).

RakeBack Percent - Rake is the money you pay to the pokerroom, rakeback is the money you get back from a pokerroom. So if you pay $100 in rake and get back $30, than that is 30% rakeback. There are actually deals where you get back more rake than you pay and those deals are called Poker Gifts or Deposit Bonus Plus Gift.

Action Poker - Rough Session

Action Poker - Free $140

I played a few hours at Action Poker and very rough session. I mean I was playing good than getting some bad beats than getting some chips than more bad beats:( And in between that, I got a suck out that saved me. One huge one, $80 pot. If I didn't hit a jack on the river, I'd be down $160. I ended today with $265, started with $230 so up $35 today and nearly unlocked $25 deposit bonus. And on top of that, I can trade my points in for cash or enter tournaments with them.

Two $80 pots..
First one, when he raised me on the river my first instincts told me I'm beat but I only had 19 seconds to act and I was mulitabling and couldn't put him on a hand that beats mine. Thought maybe he had 77 but I beat that and thought it would probably be a split pot. Pretty sick..getting $38 in there on the river when I have position..ahhh shit

Second hand, what can I say.. I never felt so happy when jack came on the river

I like this play. Bet preflop, continuation bet flop than check/raise turn.

This one, I think the timer was going 3,2,1 so I couldn't slide the bar to raise enough preflop. I got him to put all his money on the turn on a flush draw, unfortunately he hit his flush.

$1000 Action Poker Freeroll

Okay, so BankrollMob has Action Poker $1000 Freeroll Every month. It was today and I played in it. Only 57 players so that's like $18 each if every one splits it but there's players sitting out and dead money too. There's 2 bounties, Action Poker Staff member and Bankrollmob staff member. Knock one of them out and get a $110 seat for another tournament. I was so close to knock one out, came down to a coin flip that I lost.

Anyway, back to the tournament. I had 80k chips, started with 5k. I was nearly 1st in chips, 8 players left. I push with 10s, guy calls with ace queen and hits queen on the river and I lose 55k. Next hand I push with king jack in small blind, big blind wakes up with ace 10 and I'm out in 8th place. 2 hands, nearly 1st to busted.. What can you do, I was aggressive and playing for 1st so happy with how I played. $35, would have liked $230 better. The thing I noticed is, I never had my whole stack in the pot until the last had. No one called my all ins. I just built my stack stealing blinds.

Duplicate Poker Forced to Close Down

The online poker site Duplicate Poker launched their site about three years ago but are now forced to close down due to the current financial situation in the world. Duplicate Poker offered a kind of poker where all the players were dealt the same hands and the winner was the player that managed to win the most chips in that hand. The reason why the introduced this version of poker was to get around the UIGEA and offer a poker game that is pure skill.

On the website of Duplicate Poker they mention that they have been taking a hard hit due to the recent economic crisis in the US. All costumers will still be able to log in to their accounts and withdraw their funds.

My Friday Night

Okay, so I went to the movies tonight. Watched 'Eagle Eyes', I didn't like it. My friends said it was pretty good but I thought it was so unrealistic. I guess I don't like fiction movies but I liked Matrix and Lord of the Rings. I guess Eagle Eyes is just too far fetched for me.

Anyway, after the movies, some of the prettiest girls I ever seen stopped us out side of LCBO (liquor Store) and asked if we'd buy them some beer for them because they're underage(they looked 17). My buddy was like no and I felt like the guys from dumb and dumber.

Ya, so anyways. We ended up playing poker and Warcraft 3 Dota

Action Poker - Cashing Out

Action Poker - Free $140

Alright, I played a little bit of Action Poker. It's called Action Poker for good reason, you get action on almost every hand. I played a 3 hour session, longest session I've played. I was playing too many hands and bluffing to bad players..As Mike Matusow would say "Never bluff to an idiot". So I lost $65 in 30 minutes, tightened up and worked it to a $10 deficit. I pick up Kings in middle position, 2-3 guys post 25cent blinds dead ahead of me which I like and than 2 people limp in before me. So lots of dead money, I raise to $3 hoping for some action. I get my Action but the other guy hits a straight with 8s and I lose $35 pot.

Anyway, at the end of the day I'm minus $32..If I win with the kings than I'm up $3. I unlocked a $25 bonus so just down $7. I cashed out $450 to MoneyBookers. I still have $166 in Action Poker and will deposit next month if Bankrollmob has another tournament.

Bad Beat on Action Poker:(

Action Poker - Free $140

Okay, I'm at $614 right now, deposited $60 so far..lost a hand, got me on tilt.

I trapped this guy good too..perfect bet on the flop to get the idiot to raise..Almost reraised on flop but thought he had like king ten or something and would fold. Turn gives him more outs but come on..let me win one time

By the way, I finished 20th out of 77 in the Mobster tournament and got $10. A few hands in got crippled when my kings lost to ace king, all in preflop too. Worked my stack back up but than lost a 30-70 and than got knocked out when someone hit their open ender straight draw.

Played a little Action Poker, Very Good Day:)

Alright, I haven't posted in a few days. I played Action Poker on 2 other days. First day up $30, second day down $47. It was terrible the second day. I was gambling and I was down $80 but worked it back to $47. The main problem was I was distracted. Family all around making lots of noise, tv blaring, family bugging me. Was a really bad day. And every time I make my 4 outer straight or hit my flush, than someone else would have a higher flush or full house. And I seemed to pay off their value bets, I know I'm beat but getting the odds and how can I fold a monster to these donks.

Anyway, that was last 2 days. Today I started with $508. Down from $555 the day before. Today, I woke up early and had nice shower and some cereal. Got to work on 3 tables. No distractions, had my mind set on poker. I played good poker, more aggressive than my usual play but I was the big stack at the table so I bullied small stacks a little. Only mistake I really did was I got 9s and loose aggressive player raised and I reraised all in for $15 and he had queens. I got rivered a few times when they only had 2-3 outs but I got lucky too so not complaining:)

Anyway, I'll show some hands from today. After that, I'll make some lunch and play in the Mobster $1000 tournament. There's 72 registered and top 25 places are paid so I like my chances. Only problem is its a long tournament and most likely be 3-4 hours. Not really my kind of tournament but got in free and play against friends from Bankrollmob. You can join too, just click here to join.

67 suited, standard raise, almost get mini raised so getting great odds to call. Dream flop, well can't get a much better flop than that. I bet pot, willing to go all in with it. Don't like him calling but nice turn and I bet small on turn, hoping he would reraise. River I push, I think its a bad call on river by him, I wouldn't have made the call on flop by him either.

Karman Vs. GeneYuss

Karman is very loose, raised me like 5 times in a row preflop after I raised. Thought maybe he's a good player or just getting cards but no. He's a bad player who likes to play any 2 cards.

Karman Vs. GeneYuss hand 1, What's he doing in this hand. He has no business here but I'm happy he paid me off:)

Karman Vs. GeneYuss hand 2, What is he doing. No business in this hand either. Thought I lost for a sec when 8 came but happy to see it a diamond:) 3 Diamond flushes today:)

Karman Vs. GeneYuss hand 3, unfortunately I lost this one. I limped in cause I wanted to win a big pot if I hit another 10 and who knows, someone else might raise and isolate the field. So, Karman raises, first thought I was beat but its Karman I can't give him any credit. Why couldn't I suck out one time.

I got lucky in this one, what can I say. He played it good but that's the risk you take slow playing.
